Surakarta Palace is a symbol and forerunner
better known Surakarta or Solo. Kraton Surakarta, or the official name of
Kraton Surakarta Sultanate, is a historic place that should not be missed when
visiting the city of Solo. Built in stages since the first was established in
1744 by Sunan Paku Lane II, Kraton Surakarta make an exotic locale also save a
lot of historical value.
Physically Surakarta has much in common with the Sultan Palace in terms of spatial archetype, because one of the architect are prince or Sultan Mangkubumi Hamengkubuwana I, which is also the main architect of the palace of Yogyakarta. The similarity of the spatial pattern is clearly evident in the layout of the square at the north and south of the palace.
Kraton Surakarta experienced the golden age during the reign of Sunan Pakubowono X in the year 1893 to 1939. Kraton Surakarta do massive restoration, with a mixture of architectural styles between Java and Europe in shades of white and blue.
Surakarta is located right in the city center, adjacent to the city of Solo few landmarks, such as City Hall, Klewer Market and Pasar Gede. Various means of transport can be used to reach the location, especially the traditional transportation such as rickshaws and buggy.
